Yin and yang energy runs through the body in meridian system. Meridian are energetic pathways according to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). By focusing on the body’s deeper connective tissues, like ligaments and fascia, rather than muscles, practice targets the Yin aspect of the body, which in TCM represents the slow, passive, and restorative energies.
When poses are held extended periods, Yin Yoga stimulates the flow of Qi (vital energy) through the meridian channels which promoting balance in the organs and systems. It supports the Yin-Yang balance, helping to harmonize the body’s energetic state.
The practice can alleviate blockages in Qi and enhance overall well-being. Yin Yoga’s slower pace encourages meditation and mindfulness, fostering a deeper connection to the body’s internal state. It is particularly effective in supporting the Kidney, Liver, and Spleen meridians, key to vitality and emotional health in TCM.

History of Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is originated from Taoist philosophy and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where the concepts of Yin and Yang represent complementary opposites. Passive postures which are hold long time target the body’s deeper connective tissues (ligaments, tendons, fascia) rather than muscles.
In the 1980s, Paul Grilley began developing Yin Yoga from his on his studies of anatomy and Taoist principles. He emphasized the importance of stillness in poses, allowing gravity to stretch the body’s deep tissues.
Sarah Powers, a student of Grilley, later combined Yin Yoga with Buddhist meditation and mindfulness. She popularized yin yoga practice in the West. She integrated both Yin (passive, long-held poses) and Yang (active, dynamic movements), creating a balanced approach.
Yin Yoga began gaining popularity in the West around 1990.Vinyasa and Ashtanga was popular styles of yoga practice but yin yoga practice focus on deep stretching, relaxation, and emotional release. It became an attractive option for people seeking a slower, more introspective form of yoga.
Today Yin yoga has gain popularity worldwide. Practitioners accept this as meditative yoga to release trauma and emotional blockages.
